Cannes' moment of glory takes place in May, with the Cannes International Film Festival, when images of the stars descending the red-carpeted steps of the Cannes’ Festivals Palaces are flashing on television screens worldwide.

This modern city grew from a small fishing village in the south east of France. Le Suquet, Cannes' old village, was built on the site of a Roman military camp. The fishing tradition lives on and fish caught at the Vieux Port –west of the Palais des Festivals – is brought daily by the fishermen to the canopied Forville Market, and sold on to the numerous fine restaurants.
